Craig Scott (double bass) and Peter Locke (piano) are a rare event in music, each performing internationally in a variety of musical settings, and both considered masters of their respective crafts. When performing together a unique connection is created that reaches audiences of all ages and genres, resulting in unexpected musical serendipities. Double Entendre introduces modern audiences to new repertoire including originals and classic arrangements of jazz standards.

This concert will incorporate a live ABC Radio broadcast.

Get ready for a lively performance by The Jive Dogs at Rubicon Grove! Originating from Launceston, this dynamic band has been entertaining audiences since the late 1990s. Their evolving setlist draws inspiration from the birth of jazz, the roaring twenties, swing, jump, jive and blues all the way up to the dawn of rock and roll. Lots of Fats Waller, Cab Calloway, Louis Jordan and Louis Prima as well as the occasional reimagining of disco/hard rock classics. Don’t miss this unforgettable musical experience!

Rubicon Grove is an aged care facility, that have opened their doors to welcome Devonport Jazz over the past years. The facility offers warm, welcoming modern living, in a small coastal community.

After a little time out of the kitchen, funky jazz and blues group King Cake, have reignited the flame to cook up some fresh soul food. In addition to their usual fare, jump blues and New Orleans funk, King Cake will be delving into the rich organ jazz repertoire of the 60’s chitlin circuit.

The 1960s “chitlin circuit” hosted a diverse array of talented performers, including many iconic figures in jazz and blues music. Musicians who honed their craft in the clubs and juke joints at the time included B.B. King, Ray Charles, Muddy Waters and Jimmy Smith. You can expect to hear crossovers of Jazz, Blues and Soul.

The Mersey Yacht Club offers a fully licensed bar and stunning views of the Mersey River. Patrons are welcome to bring their own nibbles.  No BYO drinks.

Emma Pask, renowned for her captivating voice and dynamic stage presence, has been a prominent figure in the jazz scene both in Australia and internationally. At Devonport Jazz, Emma will present an intimate musical portrait of a genius whose work is a pillar of the Great American Songbook – Harold Arlen.

 

Over the Rainbow, Get Happy, Let’s Fall in Love, I’ve Got the World on a String, and Stormy Weather, are just a few of Harold Arlen’s well-loved compositions. Arguably one of the world’s greatest composers, Arlen believed his music was ‘from a place outside himself’. He had experienced great joy along with heavy tragedy, yet throughout his life, these masterful songs kept coming. … That Old Black Magic, Blues in the Night, Come Rain or Come Shine…

 

Emma Pask’s effortlessly honest stage presence, combined with her powerful vocal ability, will leave you spellbound and inspired as she leads you through her collection of Harold Arlen’s timeless compositions.

Playing live at the market, Richard Steele goes beyond reproducing the familiar riffs passed down by the old bluesmen. Join the Blues Point Vocal Group for an unforgettable musical experience at Sing & Swing with Blues Point! This lively vocal workshop is all about having fun and making music together. Whether you’re a seasoned singer or just love to sing in the shower, this event is perfect for you.

 

What to Expect:

  • Warm-Up Exercises: Kick off with dynamic warm-ups to get your voice in shape.
  • Scat Singing Fun: Dive into scat singing, where you’ll have the chance to mimic the pros and even try it out yourself if you’re feeling brave!
  • Harmony & Chords: Learn the art of holding chords in parts and discover the beauty of vocal harmonies.
  • Sing in Parts: We’ll teach you a few contemporary songs in parts, culminating in a fantastic group performance.
  • Live Accompaniment: Sing along with live accompaniment by the talented Sam and Brendan, adding a rich, professional touch to your experience. Bring a chord chart for the musicians if you would like to give this a try.

 

Who Should Attend:

This workshop is open to people of all vocal ranges who have a passion for contemporary music. Some basic reading skills would be beneficial but not essential. Whether you’re a bass, tenor, alto, or soprano, there’s a place for you in our harmonious gathering.
